The Grand Alaska Voyage, guided by naturalist and photographer Hugh Rose, is the ultimate Alaska land and sea adventure featuring the very best of Alaska’s scenery and wildlife. The journey begins in Anchorage or Fairbanks and includes a 5 to 7-day cruise in world-famous Prince William Sound aboard the small ship M/V Discovery.

The land portion of this trip couldn’t be grander: Travel by road into Alaska’s interior for an intimate three-day tour of Denali National Park, overnighting deep in the park at a private lodge. Flight-seeing tour included, weather permitting. Look for dates and prices for specific trips below.

Sail Aboard the Discovery

The Discovery is meticulously fitted to combine comfort and utility with an atmosphere of charm and style. The lower deck includes sleeping accommodations for up to twelve guests in six cabins, plus crew quarters, two bathrooms with hot showers, and stowage space. Guests can readily view and photograph panoramic scenery and marine life from the ship’s complete walk-around deck and expansive windows. Unlike the cumbersome cruise ship giants, the Discovery’s size enables access to Alaska’s lesser-traveled, more intimate inside passages.

Day 1: Arrive in Fairbanks, Alaska

Arrive Fairbanks. Overnight River’s Edge Resort. Please plan to take a cab from the airport and arrive by 6 PM for a welcome dinner. Meet your guide Hugh Rose.

Day 2: Travel To Denali National Park

Breakfast 8:30am. After breakfast travel by van towards Denali National Park, about a 5 hour drive. Overnight Earthsong Lodge (or similar) in Healy. All meals included.

Day 3 - 4: Denali National Park, Including Scenic Flight

Today we tour into Denali National Park by private vehicle. We will stop often to look for wildlife, and enjoy a box picnic lunch en route to Skyline Lodge in Kantishna, 90 miles inside Denali National Park. Enjoy exploring the exquisite wilderness around Skyline Lodge. Great photo opportunities. Flight-seeing tour included weather permitting. Overnight for 2 nights at Skyline Lodge. Shared baths. All meals.

Day 5: Denali National Park South To Anchorage

After breakfast we journey back through Denali National Park giving us more opportunities for great photography and, weather permitting, views of Denali. This is a long day of road travel. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 6 - 10: Cruise Prince William Sound On The Discovery

Begin your adventure today with a scenic drive along Turnagain Arm (south of Anchorage along Chugach State Park) to the port town of Whittier and your journey into Prince William Sound. Many photographic opportunities along the way. The great crew of Discovery Voyages will meet you upon arrival. Enjoy a welcome lunch reception and begin your exploration of this special place. Includes hiking, kayaking, whale watching, glaciers and great food. Shared bath.

Day 11: Prince William Sound To Anchorage

Return to Whittier this afternoon after a wonderful time exploring Prince William Sound with your guide Hugh Rose and the Discovery Crew. Transfer to Anchorage by van for dinner on your own this evening. Overnight accommodations in Anchorage.

Day 12: Fly Home From Anchorage

Depart for home. Airport transfers are not included. Short cab ride to the airport, or potential of shuttle van from your hotel or B&B.
